Adams & Martin Group is seeking a Legal Assistant to join a Sacramento law team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong attention to detail who can meet strict deadlines, prioritize tasks efficiently, and provide reliable administrative and legal secretarial support. This role includes drafting and proofreading legal documents, managing court filings, maintaining client files, calendaring deadlines, and supporting attorneys across a variety of legal matters. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat is required.
Responsibilities
Legal and Procedural Support
Strong knowledge of law and legal procedures.
Prepare and draft correspondence and legal documents.
Serve as a liaison between clients and attorneys.
Maintain attorney calendars and case files.
Schedule appointments, court appearances, mediations, and depositions while managing multiple deadlines.
Administrative Support
Answer telephones, screen and route calls, take messages, and respond to routine inquiries.
Receive, verify, organize, and sort critical and non-critical paperwork and documents.
File and e-file documents in state and federal courts and manage calendaring requirements.
Record documents with courts and government offices, request checks for filing fees, and communicate with relevant parties to ensure documents are filed and recorded accurately.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all client and firm-related information.
Litigation Support
Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, procedures, and practices.
Qualifications
Positive, team-oriented work ethic.
Strong grammar, writing, and editing skills with comfort handling multiple tasks.
Organized, quick learner, detail-oriented, and responsive.
Knowledge of state and federal calendaring procedures is a plus.
Three to five years of experience in a fast-paced legal environment preferred.
Superior interpersonal skills and patience when communicating with clients.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload and use judgment to meet deadlines effectively.
Ability to take initiative, anticipate needs, and manage projects independently.
High degree of professionalism and dependability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, time-keeping applications, and case management software.
Professional appearance and manner when interacting with clients, attorneys, paralegals, and staff.
